Choosing between the south or east coast Sri Lanka offers starts with your travel dates. Both can form part of a memorable holiday, but the right choice also depends on your route, interests and how much time you want to spend beside the sea.

South or East Coast Sri Lanka: Start with the Season

Sri Lanka’s monsoons affect different parts of the island at different times. As a result, weather on one coast may be very different from conditions on the other.

December to February is a key beach season for the southwest coast. During the southwest monsoon, from May to September, eastern destinations such as Trincomalee and Arugam Bay are generally a stronger starting point for beach planning.
