What to Expect on Your 6 Day Cultural Discovery Tour

Explore Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, discover Sigiriya’s rock fortress and visit sacred sites in Dambulla and Kandy.

This six-day journey focuses on Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, with two-night stays in Anuradhapura and the Sigiriya area. It includes active sightseeing and road transfers, with the daily programme adjusted around your interests, walking preferences and flight times.

Explore the suggested itinerary below. The final schedule will reflect your flights, preferred activities and confirmed arrangements.

Meet your chauffeur at Bandaranaike International Airport and travel towards Anuradhapura, with breaks for comfort and refreshments.

Check into your accommodation and rest after the journey. No major sightseeing is planned today.

Overnight: Anuradhapura.

This route assumes an arrival early enough for the inland transfer. For a late flight, we can discuss an airport-area overnight and revise the programme.

Spend the day exploring selected sacred monuments and archaeological sites in Anuradhapura.

The visits will be planned around your interests, with time to appreciate the city’s religious heritage and continuing traditions. Allow for walking, breaks and a relaxed lunch rather than trying to see every monument.

Follow local instructions at places of worship and give pilgrims space.

Overnight: Anuradhapura.

Travel towards Sigiriya or Habarana and arrange your hotel check-in around the day’s sightseeing.

Visit Sigiriya Rock at a suitable time, allowing for the climb and breaks. The route to the summit involves steep steps, so tell us about your walking ability and comfort with heights before confirming this activity.

Spend the remaining time relaxing at your accommodation.

Overnight: Sigiriya or Habarana.

Make a day excursion to Polonnaruwa to explore selected ruins, religious monuments and sculptures from Sri Lanka’s former capital.

Plan the visits with time to stop, appreciate the details and take a lunch break. The programme can be adapted to your interest in archaeology and the amount of walking you prefer.

Return to your accommodation in the Sigiriya or Habarana area.


Overnight: Sigiriya or Habarana.

Leave for Kandy with a visit to Dambulla’s cave temples along the route.

Continue to your accommodation, then visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic if arrival time and visitor arrangements permit.

This is a fuller sightseeing and transfer day. If necessary, the Kandy temple visit can move to the following morning, provided your departure schedule allows.

Overnight: Kandy.

Transfer from Kandy to Bandaranaike International Airport, with departure from your hotel arranged around your flight and airline check-in requirements.

Any remaining Kandy sightseeing will depend on the time available. For an early flight, we may recommend changing the final overnight to the airport area and revising the previous day’s programme.

Yes. We can discuss changes to the sites visited, accommodation, sightseeing pace and duration. Additional nights can give you more time at individual destinations. Changes are subject to availability and may affect the price.

Several visits involve walking, steps or uneven ground, and Sigiriya’s summit requires a substantial climb. Tell us about your mobility and walking preferences before booking so we can discuss suitable visits and alternatives.

Your quotation will specify which entrance tickets and guiding services are included. Specialist site guiding is separate from chauffeur services unless expressly stated in your booking.

We will review your flights before confirming the route. A late arrival or early departure may require an overnight near the airport and changes to the sightseeing programme.
